INITIAL VALUE CHAINS OF FOCUS

To achieve the Strategic Objectives, during the first five year Business Plan, the bank will focus on at least fourteen (14) initial agriculture value chains within the national priorities and specifically align with the BRN priorities. The fourteen value chains of focus for the 2016–2020 period fall under eight (8) agriculture sub-sectors as follows:

Tanzania is located in East Africa and has a total area of 945,090 km2, of which 11.3% (2009) is arable land and is contained within a land boundary of 3,861 km and a 1,424-km coastline. The climate varies from tropical along the coast to temperate in highlands.

MAIZE

Maize

Maize is the 5th agricultural commodity in The United Republic of Tanzania by value of production during the period 2005 – 2010 accounting for 7.5 percent of total production value.Moreover, it represents close to five percent of total agricultural imports in The United Republic of Tanzania for the same period and is the main energy source in the diet accounting for 25 percent of total caloric intake

TADB will also support other value chains under specific arrangements subject to availability of more funds, including third party managed funds

SERVICES

The bank is structured to deliver short, medium and long-term lending through refinancing, wholesale lending, direct lending, co-financing, syndications, leveraging/ guarantees and infrastructure financing to address financing gaps in the value chains of focus.

REFINANCING
Agr Refinancing

Wholesale lending to financial institutions in Tanzania such as commercial banks, community banks, microfinance institutions, Government  institutions.

DIRECT LENDING
Direct Lending

This is a provision of short, medium and long term funds directly to eligible projects in accordance with the foregoing lending guidelines in Tanzania.

FUNDS MANAGEMENT

The bank will also carry out the management of third party funds directed to support agricultural and rural development activities in the country.

PRODUCTS

The bank will use various innovative financing products including among others, warehouse receipt system (WRS) financing, out grower loan schemes based on contract-farming, agri-input loans, wholesale/refinance facilities, group/joint-liability arrangements, borrowing-base finance, financing against collateral management agreements (CMAs), agriculture equipment financing for both mechanization and irrigation, and other project investment facilities.

INFRASTRUCTURE LOANS
Infrastucture Dev

This loan shall be provided to public institutions/agencies, local governments and the private sector for construction of rural infrastructure.

GUARANTEE AND LEVERAGING FACILITIES
Cofinancing

This loan facilitates various financial intermediaries to provide loans to farmers without adequate collateral requirements.
